For example, LM was blackmailed by van
Bokhoven over the fact that LM had been working as a
secretary for Suzanne Davies and had allegedly not declared this
work for tax purposes. The Dutch police questioned and pressured LM for 3 days.
In a statement subsequently made by LM she
provided information about
the interview van Bokhoven conducted with her. She states:-
|
| |
1. |
Question: "You said something that they also said to you that
they (thereby meaning Van Bokhoven and Haarman) knew that you were paid
black."
LM: "This
was the first thing that they told me when I arrived there. They know
it." |
| |
2. |
Question: "Isn't that strange?"
LM: "Yes,
but they knew already... they said." |
| |
3. |
Question: "Do you think then that they have told the tax authorities?"
LM: "No,
I am sure they haven't because if they had I would be in deep trouble by
now." |
| |
4. |
Question: "They didn't say anything about that?"
LM: "No,
they said they would not mention anything about that. Because that was not
what they were after. They said 'It's not you that we are concerned
about'. So they said to me: 'Don't worry about that'. But
obviously now, you see, if I had to write something about them, even if
it's the truth... But you see, I'm afraid that they always turn it against
me, even now." |
| |
5. |
Question: "Yes, but of course it is important if they have
also threatened you not to say anything and also the important thing is
that you did not read your statement before you signed it. That is also
important, to know if you read it or not?"
LM: "Yes
but you see, I mean, to me what they said to me it was. No I didn't read
it. They read it to me from the computer." |
| |
6. |
Question: "You were thinking about your tax situation?"
LM: "Yes.
This is why I don't know exactly what they could do to me, you see."
"... I don't know exactly what they could do. What
the Dutch police could do to me. I don't know."
" But if I say what I know of [Sweeney], like -
'Yes
of course he is a good man', because I have already said all of that
to them anyway. 'Yes, he is a very good father', 'Yes he
looks so well after his children'. I have said all this already to
them."
|
| |
7. |
Question: "Yes but if they have not written it down?"
LM: "I
don't know. You see. I don't know whether they wrote it down or not." |
| |
8. |
Question: "You see that is the problem. That the statement
may have a one-sided view. As you said, they were not interested in hearing
anything positive?"
LM: "No,
they were not." |
| |
9. |
Question: "So if they have left it out, then the picture is
not..."
LM: "Correct." |
| |
10. |
Question: "... correct?"
LM: "Yes,
but they know this, even if they have not written it down, because I have
not written it down, because I have already said it to them.”
|
| |
11. |
Question: "Don't you think it is bad, that the police say
that to you when they come and question you and talk, you know, about your
work and tax and all that? They put you in a bad spot?"
LM: "Yes.
They have a strong..., how shall I say in French "Les atous", a
trump, a card up the sleeve, good cards for them. And they are using
them." |
| |
12. |
Question: "This time you fear that it would upset the
police, so...?"
LM: "I
mean, my statement was read to me - OK. But I could not write this and that
because I'm not sure the police has written it down in my statement,
because that shows that you do not trust them. Do you know what I mean?" |
| |
13. |
Question: "And there would be a possibility that they would
then come back at you?"
LM: "Yes." |
| |
14. |
Question: "Yes"
LM: "Oh,
yes. No, I really cannot afford that." |
| |
|
|

For example, JS (Kevin Sweeney's housekeeper)
was also blackmailed by Van Bokhoven:
JS was blackmailed over the police
allegation that she had been working and had not declared this work for tax
purposes. Furthermore van Bokhoven suggested to JS that he would allege
to JS's husband that JS had been physically involved with Kevin
Sweeney; Van Bokhoven was thereby threatening JS's marriage.
In a statement subsequently made by
JS she provided information about
the interview van Bokhoven conducted with her. She states:-
|
| |
1. |
Question: "For how many hours were you questioned by the
police?"
JS: "...
they came to fetch me at 10 o'clock... until 5 o'clock, that makes 7
hours"
|
|
|
2. |
Question: "How many police officers were present?"
JS: "In
Nivelle? - Two Belgians and two from Holland"
|
|
|
3. |
Question: "Did the police mention that they knew you have
been working in the house?"
JS: "Yes,
yes, yes"
|
|
|
4. |
Question: "And without being registered for tax?"
JS: "But
they told me it didn't matter..." {speech unclear thereafter}
|
|
|
5. |
Question: Did you also talk about how he (Mr Sweeney) treats
his daughters?
JS: "Oh
yes, I said that he was very nice to them and that - and that he really is
a very nice man. I am saying that he is a person who has always been nice
to everybody. He is very kind."
"He has always been alright. Oh, yes I remember when
Christian arrived in the morning on Fridays, Mr Sweeney had already given
me the envelope. Christian's pay. Even if sometimes Christian only worked
one hour or two, it depended on the weather, he was paid the agreed weekly
amount. And Mr Sweeney was always very nice to everybody, with me like with
Luana. I did the cleaning, Luana was more the secretary but everybody was
the same, he was nice to everybody."
|
|
|
6. |
Question: "You worried about not having been registered
regarding your work and taxes?"
JS: "The
police phoned me and they told me that possibly there would be a trial and
they asked me if I didn't work for Mr Sweeney and I thought 'My God, what's
this about'. Because I had stopped working there and I asked 'No, why?'. So
I said 'Yes I had been paid in black' but they already knew that. They'd
known that from the beginning and they told me this was not what they were
interested in."
|
|
|
7. |
Question: "The lawyers think that the police made the
interviews in..."
JS: "An incorrect way? Oh, but you
know the police asked me if I went out with Mr Sweeney!"
|
|
|
8. |
Question: If you went out with Mr Sweeney?
JS: "Yes
they asked me about that. And I said 'What do you think?' and I said 'You
think everybody is like that?' You know they insinuated a lot of things
like that. I said 'I know very well what he is worth'. And no matter what
they said I didn't believe them anyway. They are quite tough you
know!"
|
|
|
9. |
Question: "Did you have the possibility to read your
statement?"
JS: "They
read my statement aloud for me."
"And so it's already two statements in his favour, from
me and Luana. And Christian, that has to do with that he had lied because
he has stolen."
|
|
|
10. |
Question: "He has what?"
JS: "Stolen
things at Mr Sweeney's place. Christian has been stealing, you know!
Apparently he has been stealing. Luana told me, that he had been stealing
at Mr Sweeney's place, a watch and I don't know what else of Mr Sweeney's
things. And now I think that Christian is defending himself because he was
caught stealing."
|
|
|
11. |
Question: "I see! He has been talking to the police?"
JS: "I
know that Luana told me that he had been to the lawyers, but apparently
they dropped the case. But anyway Christian is a guy that is not okay, you
know, in any way. He is dishonest. Well, I think that should they ever say
that Christian only burned rubbish once he is saying that because he had
been caught stealing."
|
|
|
12. |
Question: "The police asked him to state that he has been
burning off rubbish?"
JS: "Yes"
|
|
|
13. |
Question: "Did he normally do that?"
JS: "Yes"
|
|
|
14. |
Question: "In his statement to the police he said that he
only had done that once?"
JS: "The
burning?"
|
|
|
15. |
Question: "Yes"
JS: "No,
no, that was every Friday."
|
|
|
16. |
Question: "It's to make Mr Sweeney look suspicious in one
way or the other?"
JS: "Oh,
yes."
|
|
|
17. |
Question: "But you remember that he did that every Friday?"
JS: "Yes,
yes, yes."
|
|

For example, CHRISTIAN CHARLIER (Kevin
Sweeney's handyman/gardener) was blackmailed by Van Bokhoven:
The Dutch police blackmailed Charlier over the fact that he had
stolen property, including a Cartier watch, jewellery, and money, from
Kevin Sweeney's home. Sweeney had not reported Charlier to the police for
the thefts, however Sweeney
did arrange for Charlier to visit his advocate so that Charlier could be
confronted with the security CCTV images which showed Charlier stealing. After this Sweeney let the matter drop.
The police however knew of Charlier’s
various thefts and they had found the letter
below; thereby they had the lever necessary to blackmail Charlier. The
police dropped the theft case against Charlier in payment of the
false testimony produced by Charlier in his statement. The Dutch police
forced Charlier to state that
he was asked by Sweeney on only ONE occasion to burn rubbish; whereas it
was Charlier’s normal job (over a period of several years) to burn the household rubbish every Friday.
Produced here is a letter (dated 3.7.1995) from Kevin Sweeney’s
advocate regarding the theft of property by Charlier.
