Questions on the Case

There has been much disinformation and false allegations made about this case. Listed below are answers to some of the questions posed:-

Q.

Was the fire in which Suzanne Davies died an accident or arson?

A.

There was no evidence found to suggest that the fire was purposely started.

There were no environmental or pathological traces or evidence found that suggested arson.

The police allegation/evidence that ‘turpentine’ was found on the carpet was proved (by police photographs subsequently discovered) to have been fabricated by the police.

Q.

Did Kevin Sweeney have any opportunity to have started the fire?

A.

At the time the fire was reported, Kevin Sweeney was in Brussels, almost a 2 hour drive from the house in the Netherlands.

The house was locked from the inside and therefore nobody could have started a fire and then left the house.

Q.

What about the ‘turpentine’ found at the house?

A.

During the previous period of 2 months the house had been completely redecorated and refurbished and as with all such work there were paints, adhesives, varnishes, paint thinners and cleaning solvents at the house. The bottles of cleaning solvents found at the house had been purchased by Suzanne herself a few days before the fire because she intended to use these solvents to finish the decoration, to clean paint splashes and so forth.

Q.

What was Kevin Sweeney’s relationship with Suzanne Davies?

A.

In a statement given to the police shortly after the fire, Suzanne’s father stated that Kevin Sweeney was hard working, reserved, had cared for Suzanne and had given Suzanne ‘her heart’s desire’. Suzanne’s father said that he was proud of Kevin Sweeney.

Q.

Did Kevin Sweeney financially gain from Suzanne’s death?

A.

Kevin Sweeney did not in any way financially benefit from Suzanne’s death. Furthermore under Belgian law, as a surviving spouse, he was liable for many of her debts and he had also provided various personal guarantees; thus he had to settle and re-pay most of Suzanne’s tax, personal and business debts.  Suzanne’s Estate Accounts were examined by an independent firm of specialist lawyers and the estate accounts show the following:-
